Make it Work Monday

Actually, the post title is a little mis-leading since I'm on vacation and not working this week!  I'm in Texas with my family, driving back to LA on Wednesday, and on Friday my future in-laws will be coming to stay.  Lots of family, lots of fun!

I'll be out of touch a bit this week, but stay tuned for a Friday wrap-up.

Until then, wouldn't it be nice to be relaxing in the living room pictured above?  That couch and those cushions are all to-die-for!  And don't even get me started on the windows - beautiful!

Happy Monday!

Merry Christmas!

I hope you are enjoying good times with family and friends.  I hope that Santa was good to you and yours.  I hope you have bellies filled with good food and laughter.  I hope this season is filled with good times that in years to come will be great memories.

I hope to see you in the new year!

Snowed in...

We're snowed in!  While that may sound terrible to some, it really has not been bad at all.  After 15 hours of driving yesterday, a day of sleeping and just hanging out together was a welcome break.  We're hoping to get back on the road early tomorrow morning so that we may indeed make it to Texas in time to spend Christmas with family.  As luck would have it, our annual family gathering, which is usually on Christmas eve, had already been moved to be a couple days later, so we'll definitely be there for that!

But for now, I'm enjoying the view of the falling snow outside our hotel window, and storing away this story to tell our future family in the years to come.

Wishing you a safe and happy holiday!

In need of zzzz's

Mr. Sandman was mostly absent last night, and that makes for an oh-so-sleepy afternoon!  But there are last emails to send and errands to run, and then I'm officially on vacation!  I can't wait to post the "out of office" message and begin an almost 3 week vacation!  I'm in need of checking out, shutting off, and sleeping in, and those (in addition to a road trip!) are on my list for the holidays.

What are your holiday plans?

Inspired by...Thursday

How fun is this living space?  Though it's not my usual style, I'm drawn to so many elements:  the painted black chandelier, the union jack fabric on the chair, the crown moldings, the patchwork blue rug and the amazing artwork hanging over the sofa.  Love everything about this!  Someday, when I have a home with a room that will be a closet, this is the look I would go for...eclectic and fun but elegant as well.  Someday....

Happy Thursday!

The gift that keeps on giving

With Christmas just around the corner and some shopping still to be done, I wanted to share what I think is the best gift ever - the gift of life to a rescued animal.

To say that the fiance and I adore our dog would be a gigantic understatement.  This little doggie is the love of our lives.  His name is Teddy, and we got him from a rescue shelter.

We don't know much of Teddy's story except this sad fact - he was dropped off at the county shelter by his apparent owners.  I'd like to think they found themselves in dire straits (this would have been at the height of the housing fiasco) and didn't know that the shelter where they left him would have been forced the euthanize him.  I'd like to think they loved him dearly but didn't know what else to do.  Surely though, they did know how scared this little guy can get when he's without his family.  It breaks my heart to think about the 5 days he spent there.  Luckily for us, a local shelter, the Lange Foundation, swooped in and rescued him.  Teddy waited 6 whole months at Lange for us.  If only we'd known him, we would've scooped him up the instant he arrived.

This little love is the light of our lives.  On our separate ways home in the evening, we often compare notes as to who is closer to home because the first one home gets the good kisses from Teddy (though, truthfully, he gives the good kisses to both of us whenever we arrive home, no matter the arrival order).  We've been known to arrive home at the same time and race each other into the house to see this sweet face.

This sweet boy is fiercely loyal and protective of us both.  He's 18 pounds of guard dog and pure joy rolled into one.  Most evenings, you can find us playing hide and seek with him - which by the way was his idea.  He loves to "hide" his bone and then growls at us until one of us says "Where's Teddy's bone?" and acts like we're looking for it.  He'll race to wherever he's hidden it and then start over.  On our morning walks, once he's finished with the business, he'll wait for us to notice that he wants to race.  He always cheats by taking off on the count of 2, and it is the most adorable thing I've ever witnessed.

He loves chicken and treats.  Loves his toys and to play chase around the house.  He's a total bed hog and his comfort is paramount to ours, and we wouldn't have it any other way.  Like clockwork, this little love is ready to snuggle with me at 9:30 every evening, and when I head to bed he's close behind.

Suffice it to say, we are eternally grateful to the Lange Foundation - not only for our Teddy, but for the good work they do for all animals in need.  So, if you're looking for a pet and feel you can give it a forever home, please do consider a rescue pet.  In return, they will be your forever loves.  If you'd like to support the work these good people do, just visit their webpage for more info.

**this is not a sponsored post - this is just a story of the little doggie who changed my life and the people who made it possible.

Daydreaming....

My wedding dress has arrived and this along with thoughts of Paris consume me this morning.  We will be traveling there in a few months time, to honeymoon and celebrate our marriage with photos in the City of Lights.  So excited for this trip.  Equally excited to be marrying my sweetie!

See you soon, Paris!

Make it Work Monday

Another Monday, another beginning.  I do like a good Monday, but I absolutely prefer Friday!  Today it is rainy and very chilly here in Los Angeles - a layers kind of day.  I've been in and out of my trench all day, and am looking forward to an evening filled with reluctant doggie walks in the rain, making dinner with my sweetie, a crackling fire in the fireplace, and watching our Christmas lights twinkle.

Sounds like a recipe for a nice Monday...

Inspired by...Thursday

I love Thursdays.  I find them inspirational and motivational, both an opportunity to start over and an almost-ending.  The work week is all but done.  The to-do list has many checks and a few new entries.  And for some unknown reason, Thursdays are my most productive day, followed by Friday.

Today I want to share this inspirational space, above.  It's the "Where's Waldo?" of offices and I love it!  So many fun things to see, it's a bit like going an a scavenger hunt.  From the posters on the wall, the books all akimbo on the shelves, to the filing system under the desk, everything about this photo makes me smile.  A lovely, inspirational mess.

Happy Thursday!

What I Wore.....

...for today's BIG end of year meeting/gathering.  Everyone puts their best foot forward (and by foot I do mean shoes) for this meeting, so I'm sporting Calvin Klein's Olive pump in black patent, this fun yet classic bag by Dooney and Bourke, and red nails.

Time to party!!

Wedding Idea: Lanterns and Hanging Flowers

While sourcing wedding ideas for one of my clients who is having their wedding in a barn and came across this photo.  So stunning, and almost exactly what the bride told me she'd love to see.  I love finding ideas that work for my clients!

Make it Work Monday!

Do you ever have those days where you really don't want to get dressed, but have to anyway?  I had that day this morning, trying to figure out something warm but comfortable that would also allow me to wear comfortable shoes today.  A warm fuzzy sweater seemed just the right answer.  I did manage to do something with my hair, but I chose the entirely wrong shoe and my feet are cold, but the look is good!  Sometimes a little comfort has to be forfeited for fashion, and today is one of those days!

Happy Monday!

Wrapped up Nicely

My first week writing this blog has been nice, indeed!  Weekend is here - any fun plans out there in the big, nice, blogosphere?  For me, I'm watching UCLA football tonight with my fiance, working a bit tomorrow (I'm a wedding planner!), and going to a cookie party Sunday afternoon!

To wrap up the week, a few things that I found exceptionally nice this week:

Getting mugged in NYC (how is this nice, you ask? click it - you won't be disappointed...).

Beautiful Malibu wedding, featured on Style Me Pretty .

This is why I adore my friend Jasmine, she loves a good plan as much as I do!  xo JP!

The cookie recipe I'm attempting for Sunday's party.  Advance apologies to my fellow cookie-partiers - I'm experimenting with this recipe!

I'm thinking of going red for my wedding....red lips that is.  Here's a great guide on how to pick the perfect red for your skin tone (now, if only I could figure out my skin tone!).

Happy Weekend!

I heart Elie Saab Haute Couture

...beautiful frothy gowns, exquisitely adorned with just the right amount of sequins and beading.  And, I love a designer who can appreciate the appeal of a strap or a sleeve on an evening gown.  I could look at these dresses every day and never tire of them.

Must find an occasion to wear one of these creations....

Oh! And the perfect place to enjoy my homemade stock...

....surrounded by perfectly striped walls, drum shades, distressed dresser and the beautiful chairs!  Found this beautiful image over at House of Turquoise (doesn't Erin have the BEST taste?!), shot by Shanna LeRoy and designed by Ashley Russel.  Divine!

Easy Homemade Chicken Stock

Last week I decided that I would try my hand at homemade chicken stock to use in my Thanksgiving recipes.  I've watched plenty of chefs on the Food Network make it and thought I'd give it a whirl.  The result - savory delicousness that I'm still swooning over!

The easy part?  I used a leftover roasted chicken from my local grocery store!  The fiance and I ate most of the breast of said roaster, so following dinner I used the rest of the meat left on the bones, as follows:

Leftover Roasted Chicken
handful of black peppercorns
handful of kosher salt
1 bay leaf
sprig of fresh thyme
1 whole brown onion, quartered
couple of whole cloves of garlic
couple of carrots, large diced
1 celery stalk, large diced

I threw all of the ingredients in a large pot of water, brought it to a boil and then turned it down to a low simmer for 2 hours and that was it!  I know most recipes call for cooking it for way longer than 2 hours, but it was bedtime, so I tasted it and thought it was delish, so I pronounced it done!  Since I was tired, I placed the whole pot in the fridge to cool overnight, strained it the next morning and placed in small containers to freeze.

Now I'm on the search for soup recipes to utilize my stash of stock.  Any suggestions?

Make it Work Monday

Oh, how I longed for the weekend to continue this morning, but, alas, it has concluded and the workweek is here.  So to use the phrase coined by the fabulous Tim Gunn, I'm going to just "make it work."  Since I am a natural procrastinator, I've decided that the only way to make the week fly by is to be as productive as possible, and there are meetings to attend, clients to be seen, and lunches to be taken and before I know it, next weekend will be upon us.

To kick off the week, I attempted the messy ponytail featured in the photo above.  Is is just me, or does this messy look require more work than expected?  I thought this would be effortless, but after 4 attempts I did manage a good facsimile.  The work was worth it, I think!

Happy Monday!

Nice to meet you!

My mom always said, if you don't have something nice to day, don't say anything at all.  I think I have a lot of nice things to say, and I'll share them here.

Nice to meet you.  Come back soon!
